Brooklyn Pride Gives Voice to LGBTQ New Americans

Oliver

The first in their new video series features Oliver from Nigeria.

Although the United States can sometimes seem like a scary place, we sometime forget how good we have it. For many, it’s a place of refuge. Being queer means that some places are not safe to visit, let alone live.

Brooklyn Community Pride Center is providing a platform for new Americans, those who’ve come here, seeking asylum. In the first video of their new series LGBTQ New Americans: Oral History Project, Oliver from Nigeria tells his story. As a gay man, he was publicly humiliated and a victim of housing discrimination.
