Irish Drag Icon Panti Schools Anti-Gay Rabble-Rouser

Following Ireland's overwhelming vote in support of the legalization of same-sex marriage last week, Panti's glamorous visage was strewn across the international media.

The Dublin-based drag queen, pub-owner, LGBT rights activist, and self-proclaimed "national fucking treasure" became the face of the emerald isle's marriage equality campaign following her impassioned Noble Call Speech, which went viral in February 2014.

Gifted with a wicked sense of humor and the wits and wiles to match any challenger, Panti is no stranger to cutting down bigoted opponents. But a recent encounter stands out for both its absurd hilarity, and frightening underhandedness. 

Three days after the outcome of the marriage equality referendum was announced (May 23), Panti posted a letter she had come across, which read:

"With the passing of this referendum, Ireland will finally rid itself of the outdated and stupid christian "FAMILY" we hear so much about from those stupid idiot catholics and granny types on walking aids coming out of churches. 

We have now entered our final solution and that is one of compulsory gay and lesbian sex education in all primary schools for 5 year olds and upwards. We will have this within a year. 

When this referendum passes, we in the Lesbian, Gay, Bi Sexual and Transgender community will be able to DEMAND that we are put on top o the list in order to adopt. The ISPCC, Barnados and our LGBT section of the Department of Children have assured us that they will push for this on our behalf. 

There cannot be any objection to surrogacy either because we will have the right to have children. Our LGBT section of the Department of Justice has been working hard lobbying the judges in this respect. 

The bigots are going to be rightly defeated in this and the media still beleive that it is only a matter of voting for the right of us in the LGBT community to get married. We wouldnt not get so much trouble for just that. It is the children we want, so that we can eventually raise them in the LGBT communes that the UN promised us at a convention so many years ago. 

Do not let this go on the public facebook page folks. Just keep it our little secret. We cannot wait to see the faces of the bigtos and homophobes on Saturday and the media all believing.

When posting the letter, Panti noticed that it was republished on a fake 'YES Equality' page a few days before the referendum.

Speaking with Out, she said: 

"When I first saw it online, I just laughed it off, because it was so obviously fake. They didn't quite capture my writing style... And when they started rambling on about special UN gay communies, I figured even a child wouldn't fall for it. Though, I was a bit more put out when I discovered it was being sent to news outlets as well."

Thankfully, the media recognized it as the fake it is, and the letter failed the gain mainstream traction. Now, it serves as a hysterical piece of satire, underscoring the fact that it was a campaign of logic and reason that eventually won the public vote.
