Spotlight on Mexico City: Café Budapest, a hidden gem in Polanco

A hidden gem in Polanco, straight from Hungary

Walking down through Lincoln Park in Mexico City, one would never imagine you could find a small oasis in the busy Polanco neighborhood. In the second floor of Common People (a contrasting modern concept store), Café Budapest is a door to pre-WW II Hungary.

Lavish blue and red tea sets are displayed on the late 19th-century furniture. Satin turquoise curtains cover the crystal windows. With barely 11 dark wooden tables, this intimate restaurant provides secret and traditional family recipees (they emigrated from the European country).

Try the Cukrászda, a Hungarian rich café, served in beautiful porcelain cups, and Sacher, a flour based dessert with chocolate, nuts and apricot, while sitting on one of the tables set outside, which overlook Lincoln Park.
