A highlight of the Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival is a contest over who can produce the best tortured Stanley Kowalski impression.

The 28th Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival just wrapped in the Crescent City and we have photos of one of the highlights. The fest is a five-day celebration of the gay playwright who created classic works like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Glass Menagerie, Sweet Bird of Youth, and, maybe most famously, A Streetcar Named Desire. A New Orleans resident for much of his life, Williams set Streetcar among the sultry tenements of NOLA. Honoring his work in the city most closely identified with him, the festival includes readings, panels, stagings, parties, and walking tours.

One of the festival's final events is the "Stanley and Stella Screaming Contest," where men and women crowd into Jackson Square and compete for the best guttural "Stellaaaaa!!!" (immortalized by Marlon Brando in the 1951 film) or "Stanleeeeeeey!!!" (as shrieked by Kim Hunter in the same movie). See some of the Stanley competitors below:
