Roseland Ballroom is closing for good on April 7, but not before Lady Gaga brings the house down with seven closing performances. Before her first show on March 28, relive the venue's most legendary performances.

Consummate New Yorker Lady Gaga is the perfect artist to close out Roseland Ballroom, the famed venue that opened in its current 52nd Street location in 1956 and replaced an ice skating rink — earlier incarnations of the Roseland first appeared in 1919 — and closes April 7. An institution in New York's music scene, the ballroom hosted everything from swing parties to disco nights to intimate performances of the some of the world's biggest artists. Nirvana: played twice at the Roseland, July 23, 1993 as the headliner of the New Music Seminar, previewing songs from their then-upcoming In Utero album, Kurt Cobain overdosed on heroin minutes before the show, and was revived in time to play. The other date Nirvana played was a surprise concert on November 15, 1993 in the midst of the In Utero tour.

Green Day performed a free show on June 6, 2000 to promote their album Warning

Björk finished off her New York residency promoting her 2011 album Biophilia at the venue.

Indie rock band Vampire Weekend performed on April 28, 2013. The set list was picked by actor Steve Buscemi.

Nicki Minaj held a free concert for her last U.S date from her Pink Friday Tour August 14, 2012, which was streamed by Pepsi at Roseland.
