The Gayest Music Video Locations

The Gayest Music Video Locations

"Club Tropicana" by Wham (1983)

Really, who did they imagine they were fooling? The video for this camp-fest was filmed in Ibiza, Spain, at Pikes Hotel and in El Paradis. Pikes is still there and functioning.

"Suedehead" by Morrissey (1988)
Morrissey mopes around Fairmount, Indiana, which of course is the boyhood city of James Dean. Featured are the school Dean attended and the Park Cemetery where he lies today

"Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran (1982)
Russell Mulcahy directed this video, which was filmed in the jungles of Sri Lanka, tuning into the whole Raiders of the Lost Ark vibe at the time.

"All Over Your Face" by Cazwell (2006)
Shirtless thrill-seekers run around Manhattan?s Lower East Side extolling the virtues of a good facial. Gay at its raunchiest, the LES as gritty as it gets these days.

"Domino Dancing" by The Pet Shop Boys (1988)
Eric Watson directed this, the sixth of the 11 collaborations he had with the boys. It was filmed in Puerto Rico over four days in Old San Juan?s colonial district and features the Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery. Ignore the two camp-as-out construction workers fighting over the lady and drink in the scenery instead.

"Bronski Beat" by Hit That Perfect Beat (1986)
The video has the boys playing at Liverpool's The State club as well as scenes of the English town of Kirkby. That movie-like footage? It?s from the 1985 movie Letter to Brezhnev in which it featured.

"Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa" by Sigur Ros (2000)
In this stunning piece of film, set in and filmed in Iceland?s Reykjav?k, two young boys fall secretly in love after one is caught playing with dolls by his homophobic father. It?s a long one, but so worth it for the payoff. Seriously, grab a hankie.

"Karma Chameleon" by Boy George (1983)
The video was filmed at Desborough Island in Weybridge during what passes for an English summer. According to the caption, of course, we?re looking at 1870s Mississippi. The boat used -- The Chameleon, in the video -- belongs to Turk Launches of Kingston-upon-Thames and is still in service.

"Hero" by Enrique Iglesias (2001)
Really, whether or not Enrique is gay, this video is glorious high camp and so on our list. The gas station is actually Roy's Motel and Café, a defunct establishment on the iconic roadtripper Route 66 in the Mojave Desert town of Amboy. The historic site, as well as the town, are owned and under the stewardship of a private preservationist.

"If I Let You Go" by Westlife (1999)
There?s a lot of confusion here, with many claiming that the Irish lads? video is filmed in their native country. Which it isn?t: Tenerife, Spain, is the actual location, and a pretty stunning one, too.

If you like your vacations with a hint of tuney nostalgia, then check out these ten locations culled from famous gay music videos, from the gorgeous to the depressing and the unexpected.
