DJs Jeremy Blacklow & George Figares Reveal Exclusive 'Halloweenie' Playlist

Halloween

Halloweenie 11 takes place on Friday, October 28 at the California Science Center.

One of L.A.'s best fall treats returns for
its 11th annual installment this week at the California Science
Center. Halloweenie never fails to deliver plenty of
celebrities, tons of hot revelers in amazing costumes and a super-star
line-up of amazing DJs, all to raise funds for the Gay Men's Chorus of
Los Angeles.
This year, two of the DJs slated to spin, Jeremy Blacklow and George
Figares, have collaborated on a new single, “To Be Able To Love”
featuring Brenda Reed. To celebrate its release, the duo have created
an exclusive playlist to help get us in the Halloweenie mood.
Out Traveler: Why are you excited to play this year's Halloweenie?
Jeremy Blacklow:
Halloweenie is, quite simply, one of the best
Halloween events in all of Los Angeles – a town that revolves around
costumes and illusion! And moreover, it’s one of the best gay
Halloween events in the U.S. This is my 5th year in a row playing
Halloweenie, and George’s first, and I’m thrilled that this year we’re
able to play it together. Plus, Fred and Jason, are good friends and
I’m always blown away by the passion they pour into it. Not to
mention, it’s for an amazing cause, GMCLA’s Alive Music Project and
the “it gets better” Tour.
George Figares: It's such a fun event! The costumes are beyond and the
party goers are really there to have a great time on the dance floor.
This is my first year playing this party and I couldn't be more
thrilled to bring my energy to the dance floor.
Sexy costume, clever costume or scary costume?
Jeremy:
Definitely clever. I’m all about bringing the wit.
George: Clever, for sure! Showing some thought and intelligence goes a
long way.
What's the best Halloween costume you've ever seen?
Jeremy:
I remember in 2009 a group of my friends in L.A. absolutely
nailed it as the entire cast of Glee. Last year, some friends of
mine from NYC were the cast of American Horror Story: Hotel and got
a shout out online from Sarah Paulson for how well they did. This
year, I’m expecting several folks to do the cast of Stranger Things.
I was once completely traumatized (and yet strangely impressed) by
seeing Courtney Act and Simon Sherry-Wood dressed up as abortions.

George: I see so many great ones every year at the West Hollywood
Halloween Parade, that it’s too hard to choose! People really go all
out this one time of year.
Any special tricks or treats in store for the Halloweenie partygoers?
Both:
We’re going to have a lot of fun with this year’s Halloweenie
theme of “Outer Space” – as the party’s taking place for the first
time at the California Science Center underneath the Space Shuttle
Endeavor. Let’s just say you might hear some new remixes from us of
some classic David Bowie and Elton John tracks!
Playlist:
10) “The Chant” - Kryder & Eddie Thoneick (Original Mix)
Kryder and Thoneick are both absolutely on fire these days and this
tribal anthem together is their best work to date. We’ve created our
own edit of this one to play during live sets that samples in “Nasty”
by Janet Jackson. But we only play it for special crowds on special
nights!
9) “In The Pocket” - Mark Knight (Original Mix)
A funky synth line and a classic house groove give this track all it
needs to pulsate through the dance floor.
8) “Screamer” - Tom Stephan and Pagano (Original Mix)
This tune is a dark track with a very sexy vocal. It really brings
that after-hours edge along with creepy sounds that are perfect for
Halloween.
7) “2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 & Jump” – Nacho Chapado
Nacho took this 1998 Stardust classic and modernized it with an
explosive new remix for today’s dance floor. It really puts a smile on
folk’s faces!
6) “Zum Zum Bella” - Alex Acosta (A1 Drums Mix)
Alex always has one track a year that just creates so much energy on
the dance floor that you don’t know what to do with yourself when you
hear it... Last year it was “1, 2, 3” and this year it’s this one.
(note: the B1 Stabs mix is equally brilliant!)
5) “Klubb Killer” – Luca Debonaire (Original Mix)
Luca is an up-and-coming producer from Amsterdam who has a lot of fun
sampling classic house and disco, and this is our favorite of his
recent crop, mostly because of its sample of “Can You Party” by Royal
House.
4) “NYMPHO” - Jose “Spinnin” Cortes (Original Mix)
Great synth lines, punching rhythmic drums, and cheeky vocal stabs. It
really embodies what our sets are all about.
3) “One Way to Do It” - Luis Mendez & T. Tommy (Original Mix)
This anthem runs away with a driving bassline and catchy synth stabs.
The build-ups are really where these 2 producers leave their mark.
2) “Show Me (What You Got)” – Gauthreaux & Grind feat. Zhana Roiya
A new tech-house track from two of the best DJs on the scene right
now. They’ve each remixed each other’s singles, and now they’ve
collaborated on this masterpiece. It pays homage to “In The Pocket,”
but with a completely original take and an infectious tribal
breakdown.
1) “To Be Able To Love” – George Figares & DJ Blacklow feat. Brenda Reed
OK, so maybe we’re a little biased here… But the reaction our new
track has received every time we’ve played it, has been outstanding!
And we can’t wait to have Brenda perform it live at Halloweenie!

The entire list can be heard on Soundcloud.

Halloweenie 11 takes place on Friday, October 28 at the California Science Center. Tickets and information are available online.
