New York's Newest Luxury Hotel — $559/Night — Opens

The Viceroy New York is now welcoming visitors in a brand-new 29-story tower on 57th Street.

A new luxury hotel is on the scene in midtown Manhattan: the Viceroy New York, a ground-up 29-story hotel catering to young people in media and entertainment.

The Viceroy opened for business on Wednesday, with the paint still drying, according to the New York Observer. What's rare about the Viceroy New York is that it's not part of a condo tower: all 29 floors are reserved for hotel guests. So even though the entire hotel is open to the public, only a select group of people will be able to afford $559 a night (the starting rate).

The hotel is aiming for an uptown/downtown vibe that will appeal to younger visitors craving luxury, with a little hipness on the side. The building was designed by Roman and Williams and features warm wood and leather accents, black glass bricks, an absence of wall art, portable soundsystems, a lending library, and local mobile phones for guests. There's a restaurant, Kingside, on the ground-floor and a rooftop bar is on the way.
