Charge It: Shopping in Palm Springs

There's only so much lunching, leering, and lounging one can do in Palm Springs. Spend some money and soak up that air conditioning.

With all the celebrities and gay people — and gay celebrities — running around Palm Springs, it's only natural there are great places to drop some coin in the city. Wandering down Palm Canyon Drive is a perfectly wonderful way to spend a day in P.S. (if it's not too hot), perusing the shops and stopping for a drink every 45 minutes or so. Here's some highlights on the city's main drag and just beyond.

This store really lives up to its name; it's like stepping into a stylish friend's hip New York pad (where everything can be yours). Gay owner Stephen Monkarsh has a beautiful array of home decor, pet accessories, and coffee table books on art, architecture, and fashion. The five-year-old store is the only place to find Jonathan Adler products in the Coachella Valley, only one of three boutique stores to carry the luxury line of Assoluline books, and the only store to sell MOMA products outside New York's Museum of Modern Art. Don't be surprised if you lose an hour or more sniffing candles, sitting on expertly-made chairs, and perusing tomes on Audrey Hepburn and Coco Chanel.
