The Pittsburgh institution is launching an exhibit exploring the work of gay fashion designer Halston and where it intersects with that of his friend, Andy Warhol.

A thrilling exhibiton exploring two titans of the 20th-century — Pop artist Andy Warhol and designer Halston — is coming to Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum this spring.

"Halston and Warhol: Silver and Suede" chronicles the enduring friendship between the two queer geniuses and their effect on New York society, American pop culture, and the world at large. Expect 40 original pieces of Halston's, including a 1961 pillbox hat he designed for Jaqueline Kennedy, juxtaposed with Warhol's paintings, photos, and videos.

The two men were good friends — Halston collected Warhol's work, rented a Montauk retreat from the artist, and the designer was a frequent subject of Warhol's work. Warhol even dedicated a chapter of his book, Andy Warhol's Exposures, to his good friend.

The exhibit is organized by The Andy Warhol Museum and Leslie Frowick, Halston's niece.

"What a privilege it was to have seen Andy and my uncle together; Andy's birthday weekend at Montauk, nights out on the town; quiet dinners at home," Frowick said in a statement. "This exhibition is an endearing insider's homage to friendship, Pop art and fashion."
