A NightOUT: Munich

A NightOUT: Munich

Munich's lively array of gay bars and clubs caters to any and all desires, as does its exciting culinary scene.

Munich is all about its Bavarian beer and bratwurst. So for a change of pace, we checked out Tian for dinner. A vanguard for Munich’s vegetarian dining scene, Tian serves up high-flavor and innovative dishes, like its Michelin-starred sister restaurant, Tian in Vienna.

While it fuses international spices and tastes, Tian stays true to its roots, serving Austrian wines and using local and seasonal ingredients as much as possible.

It may not be your typical Munich experience, but as it’s a bit lighter than traditional Bavarian fare, it’s the perfect place to begin your night.

Fortunately for the LGBT traveler, Tian is situated just on the edge of Munich’s gay district. Around the corner, on Reichenbachstraße, is Hotel Deutsche Eiche, a gay icon in Munich, complete with a sauna and rooftop bar with views out to the Alps. But the hub of bars and clubs is down Müllerstraße and Hans-Sachs-Straße.

To get our Bavarian groundings after Tian, we headed to Edelheiss Bar. A very traditional gay hangout, we sat amid a mostly older crowd of regulars, enjoying some quality local brews. After that it was off to Bau for a livelier drink before hitting NY.Club, the city’s hottest gay dance club.
