Expect sophisticated offerings — no pink decor — and some communal rooms.

“There’s no floral, there’s no stripes, there’s no rainbow flags, there’s not pink." That's how one of the developers behind the proposed Out Chicago, a gay-oriented hotel in Boystown, describes the forthcoming property.

The eight-story, 125-room hotel will be similar in spirit to the chic Out New York, a sister property to Out Chicago that's also geared to gay travelers. Windy City architect Jackie Koo is working on Out Chicago's design and she says to expect lots of straight lines and contemporary touches.

An interesting touch includes shared rooms in addition to the individual rooms. It won't be like a hostel though, but more like urban hotels in Asia, with privacy curtains and private televisions. All rooms will face a communal atrium so as to encourage visitors to mingle and conversate and flirt. A small-plates restaurant, a space for cabaret acts, and various lounge areas are also planned. No word yet on an approximate opening date for Out Chicago, which has experienced a few bumps on its road to fruition.
