Buenos Aires Street Art 00
Perhaps my penchant for the spray-painted springs from the fact that I live in Los Angeles, a city that has elevated street artists like Retna and Shepard Fairey into mainstream gallery darlings. That said, however, I have never visited a city that rivaled Buenos Aires for its sheer proliferation of the medium. Sure, much of what appears along façades, embankments and train stops ranks no higher than the scribbled taggings of talentless miscreants out to deface some property, but quite a bit of the work (some commissioned, most not) demands notice for its depth of creativity, commentary on modern life or both.
For those seriously interested, graffitimundo offers tours of the art form throughout the city with proceeds going to help support local artists. In the meantime, a few works discovered during an afternoon stroll through the Palermo and San Telmo neighborhoods….
