Young Men Allegedly Drugged, Assaulted at New Zealand Hostel

Police want recent guests to the Main Street Lodge in northern New Zealand to contact them.

The 56-year-old owner of a lodge in northern New Zealand was arrested after being accused of drugging, sexually assaulting, and filming at least 16 male backpackers over a period of two and a half years.

Mike Harris faces 39 charges for the alleged crimes, which were brought to light by two recent guests at Harris's Main Street Lodge in Kaitaia. The young men claim they were drugged and assaulted.

A Kaitaia police sergeant is asking for other young men who've recently stayed at the lodge to contact his department.

"These victims are unlikely to know that something has happened to them, although they may have suspicions," Sergeant Rhys Johnston told local media.
