In late February I made a trip to Hollywood Beach in South Florida, an quiet oasis nestled in between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. For those seeking a relaxed vacation in Florida, I recommend Hollywood as there are some classy places to eat and drink—including several gorgeous, gay-friendly hotels—and some of the freshest crab I've ever had the pleasure to eat.
Once a crazy party destination for drunken frat boys, the Ft. Lauderdale area has calmed down quite a bit, leaving room for the slightly more serious to enjoy themselves. There's also abundent flora and fauna and some wonderful chances to see them in action.
