Celebrate Orgullo Hits Miami Beach on October 1

Miami400
"Orgullo" is Spanish for pride, and the first-ever Celebrate Orgullo hits Miami Beach on October 1, 2011. Featuring musical performances, folkloric dance, celebrity guests, drag performers, refreshements and vendor booths, this event will trumpet all things Central and South American, Spanish, Mexican and Caribbean to honor the heritage, roots and diversity of South Florida's LGBT Latino community.

While Latin Pride events are not new, Celebrate Orgullo also serves as a major part of Hispanic Heritage Month—September 15 thru October 15. The theme for Hispanic Heritage Month 2011 is “Heritage, Diversity, Integrity and Honor: The Renewed Hope of America,” and Celebrate Orgullo organizers are trumpeting their event as a very real way to celebrate the community's total diversit.

The event runs from noon until 6 pm at Lummus Park, between 10th and 11th Streets, in Miami Beach proper. A portion of proceeds from the sale of food and beverages will benefit the LGBT Youth Scholarship Fund of the Miami Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Admission is free!
