The British mortgage company money.co.uk recently reviewed over 500 beauty pageants and compared the birthplaces of of first place contestants to determine which countries spawned the most winners. These pageants included both straight and LGBTQ+ contests. The study focused on two primary sources, Wikipedia’s list of winners and runners up from the Big Four international pageants, (Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth) going back to 1951. And also the list of winners from these LGBTQ+ beauty pageants.
Taking the birthplaces of each of these beauty queens and kings money.co.uk determined which countries birthed the highest number of winners.
The company also specifically pulled out data on global LGBTQ+ pageants, including Miss International Queen and Mister Gay World, to determine the top five countries where the most LGBTQ+ winners hailed from. Here they are:
The United States was the birthplace of the most LGBTQ+ (and straight) pageant winners. America birthed 19 queer pagent winners, including current winners of Miss International Queen and International Mr Gay.
According to the review, Thailand came in second, with 14 LGBTQ+ pageant winners. The Southeast Asian country was also home to the city that produced the most beauty queens and kings, Bangkok.
Coming in third place for LGBTQ+ pageant winners was Brazil, with 11 winners, including three winners of Miss Trans Star International: Rafaela Manfrini, Lavine Holanda, and Bruna Geneve.
The Philippines were home to 7 LGBTQ+ pageant winners to come in as the fourth most beautiful country.
Spain came in fifth, with six LGBTQ+ pageant winners.
