Limited-Edition Fire Island PR!DE Coffee Gives Back to the Community

Limited-Edition Fire Island Pride Roast Coffee Helps LGBTQ+ Youth

Portions of the Pride month sales will benefit local groups supporting the arts and LGBTQ+ youth.

Fire Island’s very own BeachBreak Coffee has introduced a special PR!DE blend of select coffee beans in advance of Pride month. It’s the brainchild of husbands Randy Lauwasser (pictured above left) and Jim Skicki (above right), who founded BeachBreak Coffee a year ago after losing their jobs during the economic shutdown.

The limited-edition PR!DE blend is a balanced mix of Ethiopian and Guatemalan beans, and is available for purchase online now until early autumn. A portion of every online sale in the month of June will be donated to the non-profit organizations Hetrick Martin Institute (HMI), Fire Island Artist Residency, and BOFFO.

“We created the PR!DE blend not as a political statement, but more to encourage us as LGBTQ+ individuals to be happy with who we are and who we can become,” Lauwasser tells Out Traveler.

Lauwasser tells Out Traveler coffee aficionados will appreciate the subtle tone and flavors of their special blend.

“The PR!DE blend starts with a bright floral scent and fresh cherry notes followed by nuts and cocoa for a unique medium-bodied taste,” Lauwasser says.

The Hetrick Martin Institute, named after its founder, provides services to and advocates on behalf of LGBTQIA+ youth and their families. Founded in 2011, the Fire Island Artists Residency brings emerging LGBTQIA+ visual artists to the island and provides the space and support to contemplate, commune, and create. BOFFO supports innovative and experimental art, including the BOFFO Festival taking place August 12-14 on Fire Island.
