Cinco de Mayo (which translates to the 5th of May) is a celebration of Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Cinco de Mayo should not be confused with the Mexican Independence Day which commemorates September 16, 1810, when a priest rang the church bells in Dolores as a call to arms for the Mexican War of Independence.
