Fashion yourself a shutterbug? An activist? An everyday Joe or Josephine who wants to share your world?

The Advocate is encouraging all LGBT Americans to submit a photo of their everyday lives on August 12, 2011. The 2nd annual “A Day in Gay America” photo project (click here for last year's inaugural edition) will be a series of photos that will run online at Advocate.com and a select few photos (handpicked by the editors) will make it into the special Day in Gay America edition of the magazine for November 2011. Last year's participants included gaylebs like Jake Shears, Rachel Maddow, and Rip Taylor -- and everyday heroes like you.

Inspired by the 1986 book, A Day in the Life of America, the guys at the Advocate want to get images of all aspects of your lives. Work, play, house life, family, friends, on your own, being serious, frivolous, glamorous or gritty -- they want to see it all. The photos need to be doco-style so no posed portraits, glam squads or production design, just the every day look you go by!

Here are the steps:

  1. Get your camera/phone and set the photo resolution to the highest setting (or highest file). We want high-res photos, up to but no more than 5MB. Low-res photos do not print well so they cannot be used in the magazine, only online.
  2. Take a picture at anytime on Friday, August 12 2011.
  3. Go to Advocate.com/DayInGayAmerica and upload your photo no later than Wednesday, August 19 2011.
  4. Buy The Advocate, Day in Gay America special edition to see if your photo made it.

Happy snapping!
