The São Paulo LGBTQ+ Pride Parade is the largest pride event in Latin America and one of the largest ones in the world. After two years of virtual events due to the ongoing pandemic, the 2022 São Paulo Pride Parade is set to hit the streets once again.
With over 12 million residents, São Paulo, Brazil is the most populous city in the entire American continent. Over the years, the São Paulo LGBTQ+ Pride Parade has become one of the most popular pride parades in the world – often competing with the New York City Pride March in terms of total number of attendees.
In 2022, the São Paulo Pride Parade will be an in-person event once again that will welcome not only Brazilians but also LGBTQ+ people from around the world.
The official 2022 São Paulo LGBTQ+ Pride Parade will be held on the streets of Avenida Paulista on Sunday, June 19 at 2 p.m. local time (1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT).
Avenida Paulista is the most prestigious avenue in the city of São Paulo, and attending this pride parade is completely free.
Given that 2022 will hold a presidential election in Brazil, the theme for this year’s São Paulo Pride Parade is “vote with pride for politics that represent us.” The current President of Brazil is still right-winger Jair Bolsonaro, so the Pride Parade is taking an official stance of resistance when it comes to the president’s conservative measures.
One of the opening events that will kick off the 2022 São Paulo LGBTQ+ Pride Parade weekend is the “Cultural Fair of LGBTQ+ Diversity,” which will be held on Thursday, June 16.
This event invites local artisans, entrepreneurs, and social activists to promote and give visibility to their products and/or causes that relate to the LGBTQ+ community. The cultural fair also includes live music, art exhibits, and more.
Between June 17 and 18, the organizers behind the 2022 São Paulo Pride Parade will hold a side event called the “LGBTQ2+ Rights Forum” in partnership with the government of Canada.
On Friday, June 17, this forum will hold panels discussing topics such as the “LGBTQ+ Right to Safety” and “LGBTQ+ Diversity in Schools.”
On Saturday, June 18, the forum will hold panels regarding “Employability Within the LGBTQ+ Community,” “Diversity in Culture,” and “LGBTQ+ Memory and Legacy.”
All of the panels held during the “LGBTQ2+ Rights Forum” are scheduled to be livestreamed via the official YouTube channel for ParadaSP.
