Celebrate Easter with Hunky Jesus, Foxy Mary, and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

Easter is upon us once again, meaning it’s time for the reverent to rise again with some very naughty nuns to nail down this year’s Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary.

It’s all part of the annual Easter in the Park Celebration with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in San Francisco’s historic Mission District. This year the nuns and their flock gather under the theme “Peep Show,” and these sinful sisters with bad habits have promised to “explore all the permutations from sugary sweets to North Beach diversions.” The Easter in the Park Celebration takes place this Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, at San Francisco's Dolores Park, starting at 10:00 a.m., and is free to the public.

The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. with special a Children’s Easter with a visit from the Easter bunny, an egg hunt, story time, and other family-friendly activities. While nudity is prohibited throughout the day’s events, organizers caution some themes and activities might not be suitable for folks under the age of 16.

At noon, Honey Mahogany of RuPaul’s Drag Race will host a variety show featuring Connie Champagne, Kitten on the Keys, Polesexual, Baloney, The Cockettes featuring Steven Satyricon, and Trixxie Carr among others.

The divine highlights of the day, though, are the Foxy Mary and Hunky Jesus contests.

“Potential contestants are asked to arrive wearing their Easter bonnet, Foxy Mary or Hunky Jesus looks, and line up backstage when the contest is announced from the main stage,” the Sisters said on their Facebook page. “There will be an initial screening process to determine which contestant(s) are most divinely fabulous and invited to move on to the stage.”
