A Third of Trump Supporters Would Ban Gays from Entering the U.S.—And Other Insane Beliefs

They're also in favor of the WWII internment of Japanese-Americans...still.

The three-ring circus we're casually reffering to as the 2016 election is still happening—it's been going on for four years, but that's neither here nor there—and Public Policy Polling (PPP) released some interesting numbers about what's going on in the mind of American voters. And by "interesting" I mean "terrifying" and "depressing."

While Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are leading in South Carolina, Trump's supporters there have some very definite ideas about 'merica:

-70% think the Confederate flag should still be flying over the State Capital
- 38% of Trump voters say they wish the South had won the Civil War
- Trump is the only candidate whose supporters actually wish the South had won
- By an 80/9 spread, Trump voters support his proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States
- 33% think the practice of Islam should be illegal in the U.S.
- 31% would support a ban on homosexuals entering the U.S.— no more than 17% of anyone else's voters think that's a good idea. Meanwhile, people actually think that's an idea.

To put the mores and values of Trump's supporters in context, PPP adds that 32% of Trump voters continue to agree with the policy of Japanese internment during World War II—also known as like the third worst idea in American history. Easily top five.

Of course, this is all based on Trump's supporters in South Carolina, who are just a hair crazier than his supporters everywhere else. If you need a reason to clench your fists in fury once more toda, check out the rest of the PPP poll here
