Gay Social App Jack'd Backs DeRay Mckesson for Baltimore Mayor

Gay Social App Jack'd Backs DeRay Mckesson for Baltimore Mayor

The openly gay #BlackLivesMatter activist needs your vote.

DeRay Mckesson, prominent social activist and Out100 honoree, received a generous endorsement from gay social app Jack'd, toward his mayoral campaign in Baltimore.

The app, which describes itself as "the largest and fastest growing dating app for guys looking to meet guys," contributed $6,000 to Mckesson's campaign and intends to encourage the thousands of gay men in Baltimore to register to vote and consider supporting Mckesson in the primary.

Mckesson's endorsement comes as Jack'd launches its global "Change the Game" campaign which intends to "celebrate bold, and inspiring people and projects that are challenging the ways in which people live and identify."

During the official announcement Tuesday, Hector Camacho, CEO of Online Buddies, the parent company of Jack'd and Manhunt, praised Mckesson:

"DeRay Mckesson is a voice for this generation. His passion, activism and relentless commitment for justice have forced the nation to reflect and respond. We applaud DeRay’s courage and dedication in the demand for equal rights, not only in Baltimore, but throughout the nation.”

Following the endorsement, the #BlackLivesMatter activist said, "The fight for justice is long. It is a fight to ensure equity within systems and structures that affect so many of us from communities that have traditionally been marginalized because of race and/or identity. As a proud Black gay man, I'm honored by the support of Jack'd to help mobilize the young, LGBTQ voters of Baltimore. Let's use our platforms to continue to build community and honor the complexity of our identities."

Baltimore residents should consider voting for the social activist during the Maryland democratic primary April 26.

Jack'd endorses DeRay Mckesson.
