This Just Out: NBA Will Withdraws from Charlotte for All-Stars Game
According to The Vertical, the NBA is expected to officially announce some time this week that it is pulling its 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte, North Carolina in response to the state's discriminatory House Bill 2. The controversial and widely-criticized law that passed through an emergency legislative session in March, eliminates anti-discrimination protections for LGBT citizens and mandates that people may only use public restrooms that match the gender stated on their birth certificates. NBA commissioner Adam Silver had previously threatened such a move unless changes were made to the law; and, the state's lawmakers, through their inaction, seem to have run out the clock. No word yet on what city will now host the highly publicized event.
