Marco Rubio-Led Anti-Gay Event to Be Held in Orlando on Two Month Anniversary of Pulse Shooting

The definition of adding insult to injury.

You may have thought you had already heard the last of former presidential hopeful Marco Rubio, but the blatantly homophobic politician will be present at an anti-LGBT religious conference scheduled to take place in Orlando on the two month anniversary of the massacre that killed 49 clubgoers at gay nightspot Pulse.

The event, called ā€œRediscovering God in America,ā€ will be hosted by the Liberty Counsel Action and the Florida Renewal Project. Rubio is slated to speak alongside noted anti-LGBT activists David Lane, Bill Federer, Ken Graves, and Mat Staver, the lawyer who represented anti-gay Kentucky clerk Kim Davis in a stand against the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality.

These personalities have made names for themselves by appealing to the religious extreme right with hate-mongering rhetoric, with David Lane calling homosexuality ā€œdebaucheryā€ and even calling for a sort of holy "war to restore a Christian America.ā€

In the days immediately following the shooting, Rubio hinted at a slightly more progressive outlook on the tragedy, being one of the only right wing voices to openly acknowledge that the murders committed were at least partially due to the victims' sexual identities. But only two months later, he is set to again appear in the company of some of the loudest and most hateful anti-LGBTQ voices in America.
