Must See: The Belvedere on Fire Island

This Cherry Grove institution is truly a gotta-see-it-to-believe-it hotel.

Back in 1957, the father of Craig Eberhardt — current owner of The Belvedere, a male-only clothing-optional Fire Island hotel — designed the hotel in high-camp Venetian style with self-made artwork, murals and fresco ceilings, authentic 18th century European furniture and painstaking architectural details that evoke a sense of the Italian city of canals.

These days, The Belvedere is a haven for Fire Island men looking to unwind in relaxing, au naturale style. The hotel's many details and expansive layout makes it a great place to explore. It also has lots of places to kick back including a gym, a hot tub, an outdoor pool and a salt water pool, all perfect for lounging and getting to know other weekend guests.

Fire Island is already known as a welcoming place without any of the bustling roads, cars or street lights that congest cities. But the Belvedere adds to the island's natural beauty with its own charms while also providing a great place for guests and friends to reconvene year after year.
