Legendary NYC Drag Bar Finally Finds New Home

Boots & Saddle will no longer be on Christopher Street, but it will remain in the West Village.

After the local community board rejected two proposed locations for Boots & Saddle — the decades-old drag bar that was forced to leave its original home due to rising rents — a new site has finally been found.
Community Board 2's liquor licensing committee ignored the pleas of a small handful of dissenting neighbors ("This is not something we are comfortable with this in this area," one local said) and green-lit a location at 100 Seventh Avenue South. The bar will occupy the former Actor's Playhouse, which is located below street-level. A small army of security guards will make sure crowds don't get rowdy and cars and cabs don't block the road.
The nightly drag performances at Boots & Saddle are expected to return, though the owners' goal of bringing food service to the new establishment doesn't seem to have legs. Read more here.
