New York, NY - On Monday, March 23 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette Street), actress Cynthia Nixon (above) will be hosting The Ackerman Institute’s Gender & Family Project’s second annual “A Night of a Thousand Genders” benefit. This special one-night-only cabaret evening celebrating the beauty and resilience of gender expansive youth and their families will feature performances by Drama Desk nominee Lindsay Mendez (Wicked), American Singer/Songwriter Joe Stevens (“Last Man Standing”), Kyle Taylor Parker (Kinky Boots), and Youth Pride Chorus, with Music Direction by Emmy Award-winning composer Lance Horne. Also, as special award will be given to the family of Jazz Jennings, a 14 year old transgender girl, activist and honorary co-founder of the Transkids Purple Rainbow Foundation. Philadelphia, PA - Where better than the “Birthplace of America” to celebrate five decades of LGBT political progress? Indeed, this week Visit Philadelphia announced a yearlong lineup of festivities to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Gay Rights Movement. Events include an exhibition of unpublished works and other items from Oscar Wilde at the Rosenbach of the Free Library of Philadelphia (through April 26); a photo history of the vibrant and Legendary “house ball” culture popular with African-America, Latino and transgender communities on display at the African American Museum in Philadelphia (June 12 - August 16); the Fourth of July wreath-laying ceremony at the Gay Rights Demonstration Historical Marker (photo above); and, much, much, more.
