Philly got a little brighter Friday.

At the cross sections of 13th and Locust streets, the city debuted rainbow crosswalks to represent Philly's support the LGBT community.

The crosswalks coincidentally debuted the same day that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality, making same-sex marriage a Constitutional right for all Americans.

In late March, Philly Pride Presents announced the crosswalks would be coming this summer, and Friday they appeared at the cross sections.

The walkways are made up of red, orange, yellow, green blue, and violet stripes - the six colors of the gay pride flag.

This visual representation of support for the LGBT community, said Independence Visitor Center employee Albert Lee, is that tourists can very clearly see that the city is gay-friendly.

"We keep talking about how this is the city of neighborhoods," said Lee, " and this is the Gayborhood. think it helps with trying to mesh the ideas of being welcome."

The rainbow crosswalks will be dedicated at the Annual Reminders Block Party on July 5th, honroing the 50th anniversary of the first U.S. LGBT-rights group demonstrations.
