Accessories designer Alejandro Ingelmo first made his mark in 2006 with the debut of his sexy architectural shoes for women, adding men to his roster the following year. Hailing from a long line of footwear aficionados, beginning with his great-grandfather, who was a cobbler, Miami-born Ingelmo’s vertiginous heels and flashy, futuristic men’s kicks have earned him a cadre of celebrity followers, from Robert Downey Jr. to Joe Jonas. Here, he selects choice spots in one of his go-to vacation destinations, Rio de Janeiro.

“I like going here with a big group,” says Ingelmo. “The atmosphere is fun, and the menu is eclectic. Plus, it has the best ceviche in Rio.”

“This samba club in Lapa is a great place to get the feel of the Brazilian dance culture.”
Rua do Lavrádio, 20;

“I love to stop here for an açaí drink after a day at the beach.”
Rua Visconde de Pirajá, 198;

“My favorite place to hang out during the day. I like to sit at marker 10; it’s low-key, with good-looking people, and it’s a close walk to the gay beach.”

“This is the best shop for picking up a well-cut sunga bathing suit.”
