The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Miami returns for its 24th edition with in-person events starting Friday, April 22.
Presented by Lexus, Gilead, and Miami-Dade County, the festival will include more than 45 international features and documentary screenings, panel discussions, and, of course, those fabulous parties. The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Miami will take place at venues throughout the city as well as via exclusive virtual showings through May 1.
The festival opens Friday with the South Florida debut of B-Boy Blues (2021), an African-American comedy-drama based on the 1994 book by James Earl Hardy. Described as Moonlight meets Queer As Folk, B-Boy Blues is a classic tale of love amidst clashing cultures as a college-educated journalist falls for a bike messenger from the streets of Harlem. B-Boy Blues debuts on April 22 at 7 p.m. at the Black Archives - Historic Lyric Theater.

Vanguard Award winner and guest of honor Patricia Velásquez, best known for her portrayal of Anck-su-namun in The Mummy (1990), its sequel, The Mummy Returns (2001), and appearances on TV shows including The L Word, will attend an opening night party following the showing. Velásquez, known internationally for her philanthropy, is also a UNESCO Artist for Peace and a Goodwill Ambassador at the Organization of the American States.
The festival’s Centerpiece film, Girl Picture (Työt Työt Työt), has its South Florida premiere at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens on April 28 at 8 p.m. The 2022 film tells the story of three girls coming of age in Finland and how they wrestle with their dreams, their sexuality, and the nature of friendship in this Sundance Film Festival Audience award-winning film.
