Zurich Hosts EuroPride '09

Known as the “gay capital” of Switzerland, Zurich is hosting the 40th annual EuroPride celebration this spring. The event runs from early May through June 7. Full details can be found online at: www.europride09.eu.

Q & A with Mr. Gay Switzerland
Zurich is also where you?ll find Ricco ?Rimus? M?ller -- Mr. Gay Switzerland 2009. As a fashion photographer and model, the 24-year-old has experience on both sides of the camera. When his ?mister? reign is over, he plans to study architecture. In his free time he enjoys traveling, reading, visiting museums, working out and snowboarding. Though deaf since birth, Ricco is multilingual. In addition to sign language and German, he knows English plus a bit of Japanese, Italian and French.

During the Zurich Town Festival, look for him at the Mr. Gay/Pink Cross bar-tent near the lake. Ricco will also be dancing atop the Mr. Gay parade float on Saturday, June 6.

Here he shares his insider tips for Zurich.

Ricco, can you suggest some ?must-do? activities in Zurich?
Check out Lake Zurich, especially the resort Tiefenbrunnen (English for ?deep well? and also called the "queer well" on the gay scene), or the area around the Chinawiese (Chinese meadow) to enjoy the sun to the fullest. A walk along the waterside promenade is also a must-do in Zurich during the summer. There?s a relaxed atmosphere and the view of the horizon is simply phenomenal. Or savour the moment at the Limmat River.

Art-lovers must visit the famous art exhibitions at the Kunsthaus. Fitness-freaks like me should go to the Fitnesspark at PULS 5. There they can work out in an awesome building.

For shopping sprees, try Niederd?rfli in the old town, the famous Bahnhofstrasse or Escher-Wyss-Platz ? an insider tip with really good shops.

Do you have any restaurant, bar or caf? recommendations?
Good old Caf? Spr?ngli is the most famous in the country. And the Odeon and Al Leone caf?s are also worth a visit.

If you want to eat good sushi, try Barf?sser in the Niederd?rfli neigborhood or Yooji?s at Bellevue. For the best homemade Italian comfort food, go to Il Gattopardo. But Don Leone has the best pizza.

Then there?s Swiss Chuchi, a typical Swiss restaurant. During the summer months, you can dine al fresco while enjoying the bustling activity in the old town's pedestrian area.

For a splurge, visit the newly-renovated Grand Hotel Dolder for its awesome architecture.
