A Lesbian Wedding in Bermuda

Send us your tips, letters and recommendations! Email us here.

To whom it may concern,

After reading the editorial in the Bermuda News paper (Mid Ocean News) regarding the homophobic behavior displayed by local church organizations in reference to Rosie O'Donnell's cruise, I feel compelled to inform you that on June 12th 2009, unbeknown to the Bermuda church and Government, Bermuda will be hosting its first lesbian wedding. Yes lesbian wedding.

Two friends have decided that enough is enough, and have gone through great lengths to organize the most beautiful wedding on the beach of one of our hotels. They will be legally married in Canada of course, but due to the support of family and friends, it was decided by the bride and bride along with family that their ceremony should be experienced by those that they love.

Therefore they chosen to have a wonderful ceremony here on our homophobic island of Bermuda. Due to repercussions they have hired Security in an effort to try to curb any sort of negative protest on their beautiful day. This has not hit the media or the churches ears, but we are sure that once it does that all efforts to halt the ceremony will begin.

The host hotel is very supportive, but we are afraid that with pressure from the Government and the churches, they might bail out. This is not only going to be a wedding, this will be an event that would hopefully change the way in which homosexuals will be viewed on the island. These two young ladies have taken the time an expense to make sure that this ceremony is done in a tasteful and elegant manner, and I will say that no expense has been spared.

We hope and trust that by us informing your newspapers that we will solicit your support in bringing this event to the forefront of the homosexual struggle on the beautiful island of Bermuda.

Kind Regards,

Gio Simmons
