Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- Opera fans may be excited to hear that Florentine Opera’s reprisal of Elmer Gantry, directed by role originator Frank Kelley, will come to stage on March 13 and 15. Based on the satirical novel by Sinclair Lewis that questions religious fundamentalism, Elmer Gantry tells the tale of a morally corrupt preacher in the 1920s and his affair with a devout evangelist. Additional activities taking place in conjunction with the reprisal include a film screen of the original 1960 Academy Award-winning film, a meet-the-artists event, pre-opera talks an hour before curtain, and a pre-opera opening night dinner.
