A Prideful Summer

Story by McCarton Ackerman

Ah, Summer -- the weather is always gorgeous, wearing tight clothing becomes socially acceptable again, and Pride events kick into high gear.

With events throughout the country and activities ranging from family picnics to staring at buff boys on floats, it's tough to decide what to check out. With that in mind, CheapFlights.com has put together a helpful bundle of Gay and Lesbian Travel Tips for Pride!

Here are a couple to get you started!

  • Plan ahead. Booking flights early can save you a bundle, leaving with you far more to throw down at the bar.
  • Less is more. Lots of smaller Pride events take place within driving distance of major cities, and the less overwhelming atmosphere is a welcome change. Jersey Pride in Asbury Park is a great local event with wide appeal and good vibes. The laid back arts community, gorgeous boardwalk setting, and great nightlife make it the perfect place to escape for the weekend.
  • Think beyond June. Although this is when most cities hold their festivals, plenty of major destinations hold events throughout the summer. Consider Atlanta in July, Vancouver in August, or Dallas in September.

Check out the complete list of Pride events at Gay.com and the full list of tips from CheapFlights.com here.

These tips, on another notes, also include some words of wisdom from our Editor in Chief, Ed Salvato, who has seen a "sustained investment in the [niche LGBT travel] market" and “more focus on senior gays, the Latin market, bi-sexual travel; [gay travel] options have really expanded.
