Making a splash at Dollywood

I got the timing all wrong when I hopped on Gatlinburg’s pink trolley to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee last week. There I was surrounded by a sea of people wearing t-shirts emblazoned with Biblical quotes on ‘em. If I’d waited till June 28th, I could have cavorted round the park with hundreds of red-shirted homos on the sixth annual gay gathering at the park, OUT at the Park.

Although the event is not endorsed or supported by Dollywood, it is allowed to happen, which seems like a tacit vote of support to us.

Wear something red –- or if you want to blend in with the other park goers, pick up a religious shirt at Be Attitudes, a religious shirt shop by the Back Porch Stage. My favorites were the ones with the Starbucks logo copy that read, instead of “Starbucks Coffee,” “Sacrificed for us,” and the black shirts with the Fender guitar pick logo that instructed everyone to “Pick Jesus.”

Get your gay on!
