While most of us are still dealing with chilly temperatures, freezing rain and snow so high it hides our calves, Miami is sizzling with Pride and ready to party. The first annual Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade and Festival is set to kick off this Saturday, April 18 from noon until 7 PM on Ocean Drive. If sun, fun, and beach bodies is not enough to lure you, then appearances by Grand Marshalls Grammy award winner Patti Labelle and the fabulous fashion designer Richie Rich should do the trick.

R&B singer Patti Labelle has always been known as a staunch supporter for the GLBT community and is the spokeswoman for the National Minority AIDS Council’s “Live Long, Sugar” campaign. Richie Rich, co-owner of Heatherette, has been designing clothes for big-name celebs like Paris Hilton, and of the label's most recognizable t-shirts, “Carrie,” was featured in HBO’s Sex and the City international ad campaign.

The parade will originate at 5th Street and end at 15th Street on Ocean Drive. “PROUD,” the festival and expo, will follow at Lummus Park between 10th and 12th Sts., and where India, Fanny Lu, Carol Jiani, Ceevox, and Jeri Brown, will perform while DJ Maximus 3000 spins. All events at Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade and Festival are free and open to the public. In addition, this year’s Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade and Festival will honor the community’s LEGACY couples, who have maintained committed relationships spanning 20 years or more.
