We often receive questions from our readers and every so often post answers that may be of general interest. We recently fielded the following inquiry from Vanessa via email.

My partner and I are looking for the best place to vacation with our family. Our children are 15 and 16. We are having a hard time finding places with a gay family theme, as well as, nightlife for us.  We are hoping to vacation in August 2010.  Thank you, Vanessa

Ava One great resource for gay families planning vacations (or just to meet other gay families) is the Family  Equality Council, which strives to help create " a future where all families, regardless of creation or composition, will be able to live in communities that recognize, respect, protect, and celebrate them."

They also organize family-oriented events, including the big one, Family Week in Provincetown, July 31 through August 7. This year marks the event's 15th anniversary and is an opportunity for hundreds of families to meet others just like themselves. Provincetown also offers plenty of really fun nightlife for you and your partner, including great gay comedians and singer/songwriters as well as bars -- from raucous to intimate -- and clubs.

Another terrific option for gay families is R Family Vacations, the tour and cruise operator for gay and Gaymoms lesbian families that was originally co-founded by Rosie O'Donnell and is currently run by Kelli O'Donnell and Gregg Kaminsky, two industry leaders with a huge amount of experience organizing cruises and tours for gay families. One hallmark of their trips is topnotch Broadway-level entertainers.

R Family organizes groups aboard gay cruises as well as all-inclusive land vacations. Their cruises include nightlife on board, and their cruises often include ports of call that offer lesbian and gay nightlife. Their next big vacation is their first-ever all-inclusive at Club Med Ixtapa, Mexico July 10 through 17, 2010. You can leave the kids with sitters and enjoy nightlife options every night of the week.

OutWest Global Adventures, whose owners have a lovely young child of their own, is offering a family vacation in Yellowstone June 18-24, 2011.

Alyson Adventures is planning on offering a Grand Canyon rafting tour specifically designed for gay families and their children July 13-22, 2011.

Neither of these last two vacation options will offer much nightlife other than what occurs in nature and bright stars overhead.
