Update: We posted the story below last month but we just got word they're down to their last tickets. This is a LifeBall2010terrific cause, literally fighting AIDS and celebrating life, and an amazing event. Everyone has to dress up. They have costume police monitoring attendees at the entrance. They may make you pay the more expensive ticket entry price if they deem your costume insufficiently creative!

You'll be in good hands with Steele Luxury Travel, the exclusive North American tour operator for Life Ball access.

On July 17, Vienna is host to Life Ball, the biggest charity event in Europe benefiting people with AIDS and HIV. It's also arguably one of the most extravagant, unique, and sought-after such events in the world, and it takes place at Vienna's gorgeous city hall. Though the event is super glamorous, the organizers, hosting this party since 1993, keep the focus squarely on the fight against AIDS with speeches, moments of silence, and a raft of world-renown celebrities and political figures, like Bill Clinton (in the photo below left by Fritz Novopacky) speaking and performing to draw attention to fight against these diseases.

Fritz NovopackyLOW The number of tickets to the event is limited to 3,780 with half-off for those who adhere to the themed dress code. Beware though, costume 'police' have the right to decline your costume if they deem it insufficiently tied to the theme.

Speaking of costumes, fashionistas will be thrilled to learn that this year's celebration will bring together three of the world's top designers to showcase their haute couture at the Life Ball's annual fashion show: Calvin Klein Diane von Furstenberg, and Kenneth Cole.

Purchasing tickets as an individual is fairly complicated. See Life Ball's site for more information. Many travelers find it much easier to attend Life Ball as part of a tour. Steele Luxury Travel is the exclusive North American tour operator for Life Ball access. Another tour operator, Haute Vacances, offers visitors from Australia and Asia Pacific access to the parties and events.
