Many visitors to Provincetown prefer it during the off-season or shoulder season when the weather's less reliably warm, the prices are a little lower, and the crowds are a little thinner. For the rest of us, Provincetown really hits its stride from July 4th through Labor Day. Yeah, it's a short season, but this tiny resort town at the very tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts packs in an unbelievable amount of entertainment.
Of course, there are many venues in Provincetown for any taste, ranging from wine bars (check out Joonbar at the Pilgrim House), to the venerable Atlantic House, open 365 days a year (god bless it), to GirlPower at PiedBar every Friday and Saturday nights for the lesbians. But Independence Day weekend really belongs to the Crown and Anchor, which features a non-stop roster of events for the boys starting July 1.
Ptown's premier nightclub complex, which includes six unique bar venues, boasts eight days and nights of entertainments, with eight DJs, all at 2009 prices. For those with an unquenchable thirst for dancing, the Crown offers a Platinum Pass covering eight nights, plus giveaways and discounted entry at the Mussel Beach Health Club, which is a great place to scope out your potential future ex-boyfriends.

It is to the east coast what The Dinah in Palm Springs, California is to the west coast: the biggest, splashiest, most fun party for gay women. On another note, August 5, 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Pilgrim Monument. Mark your calendars for special events being planned even as these words are typed. Since the monument was dedicated by a president -- William Howard Taft -- the organizers are petitioning President Obama to appear for the re-dedication of the 252-granite tower.
