Chic New Hotels in Buenos Aires

With a name like Legado Mitico ("mythic legend"), you better be good. This new 11-room hotel located in the fashionable Palermo Soho section of Buenos Aires lives up to its lofty name. This under-the-radar guesthouse offers topnotch service (with a high staff-to-customer ratio) in a secure environment off one of the tree-lined, cobblestone streets of Soho with its multitudes of tony restaurants, hip cafes, and boutique shops. Spacious, elegantly designed rooms are named for heroes and other important figures of Argentina. Guests may relax in the library or near the fireplace (nice in winter) or at the "solarium" -- the exterior decked whirlpool area. Rooms are in the $240-300 (U.S.) range.
Another luxe but inexpensive choice is the nearby Ultra Hotel Buenos Aires, a boutique hotel property located in the heart of Palermo Soho, with bar and bistro; friendly, responsive service; spacious and stylish rooms; and light-drenched white-marble bathrooms with plenty of counter space. You'll want to explore the nearby shops and restaurants if you can tear yourself away from the incredibly cool rooftop terrace and pool. The hotel can arrange attendance at (and transport to) a polo match. The hotel offers specials, including upgrades for stays of three nights or longer and free airport transfer for a five-night stay.
