Perpetual Summer at New York's Gallow Green

The McKittrick Hotel is already home to the world-famous Sleep No More.

The McKittrick Hotel is already home to the world-famous Sleep No More. The sexy theater-concept that riffs on Macbeth and allows bemasked people to explore the spooky floors of the multi-level performance space located in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood has a popular bar/cabaret (The Manderlay Bar) and now Gallow Green, a rooftop cocktail destination. You'll come for views, but you'll stay for the drink—and maybe some swing dancing.

Up at Gallow Green it's like it's a perpetual summer picnic. Maybe it's a classy Gatsby vibe or just a Kentucky Derby party that never ends. Whatever it is, we saw guys and gals wearing white way after Labor Day, along with whimsical dancing and even a small group deciding to pot some plants on the spur of the moment next to our table.

Like Sleep No More and the rest of the McKittrick, no spot has been left unclaimed or unstyled by set dressing. Check out the restrooms which are done up to resemble potting sheds (complete with dirty ceramic pots). And make sure you order the Damned Spot, a mixture of Famous Grouse Whisky, lime, Fentimans Ginger Beer, and (yes) a spot of Peychaud's Bitters. And the Scotch quail eggs (hardboiled eggs wrapped in sausage and fried) will keep the picnic feeling from dissipating—no matter what chill hangs in the air.

All you Sleep No More fanatics have yet another reason to come, experience, and linger. Even the elevator operator gets in on the action (but no masks here, sorry).
