Venice Beach's Latest Attraction: Ziplining

Venice Beach, the exciting and funky stretch of Los Angeles that abuts the Pacific Ocean, was home to tragedy recently, when a man plowed into the boardwalk, injuring several and killing an Italian woman on her honeymoon. While the city works to separate cars and the thousands of pedestrians and cyclists that populate the area, a new attraction just opened that is bringing even more people to Venice: ziplining.

Flightlinez Venice Beach is located in the heart of the tourist district, down Ocean Front Walk. The ride takes you over the hippies, visitors, locals, stoners, sidewalk cafes, and the occasional celebrity — if you can manage to get on while the sun is setting (about the time the ride closes), get ready for a sublime experience. The cost is $20 ($18 for locals or public transit users) with valet available for bikes, skateboards, and rollerblades. The zipline is also festooned with art from local craftsfolk. Flightlinez Venice Beach also sponsors a program called Soaring Heights where children are taught acrobatic skills by members of Cirque du Soleil and the Lucent Dossier Experience. After you zip, make sure to ride your bike down to one of L.A.'s best gay bars — Roosterfish, on Venice's uber-trendy Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
