Three Dead, Five Wounded in Attack on Gay Fest in Mexico

Gunmen stormed the Reina Gay fest in Acapulco Sunday.

An attack by gunmen on a gay festival in Acapulco, Mexico, over the weekend left three people dead and five wounded, Agence France-Presse reports.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the Sunday attack on the Reina Gay festival in the resort town was specifically antigay or part of the generalized violence plaguing the region. Acapulco has the highest homicide rate in Mexico, and several schools in nearby rural areas have had to suspend classes recently due to violence, according to AFP.

The people killed when the gunmen fired into the crowd were all men, aged 23 to 33, a police official told AFP Monday. Five others required hospitalization for their injuries.
