Snapshot | St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

St. John is the perfect place to escape. Staying at the Westin St. John?s three bedroom villa kept our family trip easy. My boyfriend, Ira, and I stuck to the island drink of choice ? The Painkiller (rum & fresh juices topped with nutmeg).

Five bucks each got us a snorkel rental at Trunk Bay where the Underwater Trail was great practice. Turns out Salmon Beach wasn?t really that nude or that gay, but it was secluded!

Don?t forget bottled water and enjoy the hike in from Caneel Bay or the National Park. The highlight ? a day trip to BVI?s Virgin Gorda Baths and Norman Island Caves! (Passport required). The Painkillers and cookies alone make Cruz Bay Watersports? day-trip package well worth the price. Make a reservation for an outside table at Asolare in Cruz Bay on North Road. Be prepared to be directed to the bar ? even if you?re on time for your reservation.

Fall in love with the Rock Shrimp Coconut Lemongrass soup or try the local catch of the day (mahi mahi in lemon beur blanc). Get the Alexander Valley Vineyards Sin Zin to pair perfectly with the lamb chops, duck or seared kobe beef.
