NYC Pride, the name behind world-famous events like the March, the Rally, PrideFest, and Dance on the Pier, has announced that its theme for 2015 will be “Complete the Dream.”
“Our 2015 theme highlights how close we are coming to our dream of full LGBT equality and liberation,” said Maryanne Roberto, NYC Pride Co-Chair. “In fact, one facet of that dream – full legal recognition of marriage equality in the US – could be made real by the United States Supreme Court in the days before we step off down Fifth Avenue.” Referring, of course, to the Supreme Court’s hearing on marriage equality slated for this year’s session.
In a release, the organization said that their theme is aiming, not just to honor the dreams of LGBT people, but the dreams of “all people seeking liberation from injustice.” And the theme further reminds the LGBT community that the fight won’t be over until the young, transgendered, and people of color within it are show the dignity and full respect under the law as well.
“We feel our theme and creative for this year embodies the serious yet celebratory nature of where we stand at this crossroads in LGBT history,” said Managing Director Chris Frederick. “Everyone’s dreams are dynamically different but we all dream of reaching full quality. We are excited to welcome the world once again on what will likely be a truly historic year for the LGBT community.”
Official NYC Pride events will take place this year from June 21 to 28.
