Construction is underway for Ibiza's first LGBT hostel. In July, the Spanish hotel chain Ibiza Feeling announced the building and rebranding of its Purple Hostel in San Antonio, Ibiza, set to reopen in time for next summer. According to the website, it will officially become the hostel on the resort island exclusively aimed at the LGBT traveler.
Set to open in May 2014, the hostel is the first of its kind on the island to market exclusively to LGBT visitors. Supported and sponsored by various authorities including Ibiza's town council, the hostel's parent company Ibiza Feeling advertises their desire “to provide the most friendly, first choice hostel which is dedicated exclusively to the LGBT market.”
The 24-room property will include new air conditioning, satellite TV, and a renovated courtyard with an outdoor pool and adjoining bar, perfect for those who don't care for sand between their toes.
Not pretending to compete with the major hotels and resorts, the Purple Hostel doesn’t promise luxury accommodation, but strives to create an inclusive atmosphere on a side of the island that’s growing more popular among LGBT travelers. In addition to the welcoming atmosphere, the hostel is promising reasonable prices and excellent food, perfect for backpackers and travelers on a budget.
The soft opening of the hostel is scheduled for May 30. Price for a single room run around $50 per night.
