I travel a lot; so, I imagine I probably mull over the virtues and shortcomings of luggage more than most people. And yet, not once have I ever thought, "Navigating LAX would be so much easier if only my roller bag were able to lug me through the terminal instead of the other way around." Clearly, I lack vision.
But, the folks behind the Modobag, described as the world's first rideable, smart carry-on, have seen the future and it is apparently filled with travelers zipping from gate to gate (at speeds up to 8 mph) while straddling a bag designed to fit comfortably in an overhead bin. Some of the bag's other features include dual USB ports, an LED display and GPRS tracking, not to mention the kind of rarified experience previously reserved for motor scooter enthusiasts and Segway aficionados.
Although still in its crowdsourcing phase on Indiegogo, Modobag has already surpassed its goal. Individual bags for early adopters are priced at $995 plus shipping.
