Sundae Funday
Eleven unusual frozen treats to beat the heat.
There is no dessert more decadent than the Golden Opulence at Serendipity 3 (photo above) in New York City (Guinness World Records agrees.) This extravagant sundae, costing $1,000 and requiring 48 hours notice, is made with rich Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla; a chocolate syrup from Amedei Porcelana, one of the world's most pricey chocolates; chunks of rare Chuao chocolate; exotic Parisian candied fruits; gold-covered almonds; chocolate truffles; marzipan cherries; and edible gold leaf. Oh, and it comes with a dessert caviar.
If that falls outside your dessert budget (for the year), here are ten other unique treats that will beat the heat:
Top left: Jesus Juice sorbet. (That's wine, in case you weren't sure.) Humphrey Slocombe, San Francisco, California. Top right: Hawaiian Pizza ice cream sandwich, pineapple ice cream with Spam pieces between white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. Hanjip, Culver City, California. Bottom left: Lobster ice cream, with chunks of lobster. Cousins Maine Lobster, West Hollywood, California. Bottom right: Cookies and cream doughnut ice cream sandwich. The Doughnut Lounge, Kansas City, Missouri.
Top left: Changos (Mexican sweet cream and cinnamon) paleta. Pleasant Pops, Washington, D.C. Bottom left: Cotton candy, wedding cake and bubble gum shaved ice with mochi. Ululani’s Hawaiian Shaved Ice, various locations Maui, Hawaii. Right: Peach-Mango Pop-tail, a house-made peach mango popsicle served in a glass of Prosecco. 21c Museum Hotel, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Left: The cotton candy milkshake. BlackTap, New York, New York. Top right: Zucchini bread with chocolate freckles ice cream. Salt & Straw, Portland, Oregon. Bottom right: Happy Panda (black rice horchata) and Bath Salts (lavender and pine stracciatella) ice creams in a salted blue corn honey cone. Ice and Vice, New York, New York.
